The term biostimulator is often used for injectable materials such as poly-L-lactic acid and calcium hydroxylapatite. Although both may be associated with gradual changes in tissue support or appearance, they have different compositions, properties, indications and techniques. They should not be presented as one identical category.
Unlike a filler chosen to create immediate volume in a precise area, some effects of these materials develop over several weeks. The plan should account for the product, authorized area, number of sessions, expected evolution and whether another option fits the goal better.
This page provides guidance but does not diagnose or replace a consultation. The final recommendation depends on a professional assessment.

Who may be
a candidate?
Candidacy is not determined by a photograph or a trend. These are general guidelines and must always be confirmed during a consultation.
- Adults interested in a gradual improvement in tissue support or skin appearance.
- People who understand that the effect is not identical to lip filler.
- Patients with an area and indication compatible with the selected product.
- Those able to attend follow-up and avoid decisions based on brand name alone.
- Infection, inflammation, active lesions or recent procedures without adequate recovery.
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding or medical conditions requiring specific assessment.
- Nodules, inflammatory reaction or unknown previous product in the area.
- When an immediate, extremely localized result is expected that is incompatible with the proposed material.
Safety and expectations
The indication belongs to the product—not the marketing category.
Each material has its own labeling, treatment areas, preparation and risks. The plan should preserve traceability and follow-up.
Pain, swelling, bruising, tenderness, asymmetry, nodules or infection are possible.
As with other facial injectables, intravascular injection and serious injury remain risks; anatomical knowledge is essential.
PLLA effects generally become more apparent over time, so adding product before reviewing progression can lead to overcorrection.
Calcium hydroxylapatite and PLLA are not equivalent to hyaluronic acid and are not managed in the same way if a complication occurs.

01Are Radiesse® and Sculptra® the same?
No. They are based on different materials and have their own indications, preparation, technique and progression. Selection follows an assessment.
02Will I see the result on the same day?
There may be an initial change from product or swelling, but a substantial part of the intended effect is gradual and requires time to assess.
03How many sessions will I need?
It depends on material, area, goal and response. A fixed number should not be set without examination and review of progression.
04Can it be combined with other treatments?
Sometimes, but sequence and intervals matter. Combining procedures does not always improve results and can increase inflammation or complicate follow-up.
