Acne is an inflammatory disease that can cause active lesions, persistent marks and permanent scars. Controlling new breakouts is usually the first priority because treating scars while inflammation continues allows new scars to form.
Atrophic scars may be ice-pick, boxcar or rolling; raised scars and keloids also occur. Each pattern responds differently and often needs a combined plan. Facials or superficial exfoliation alone cannot correct deep scars.

Candidacy is not determined by a photograph or a trend. These are general guidelines and must always be confirmed during a consultation.
- Older adolescents and adults with persistent acne who need professional assessment.
- People with marks or scars who want to understand which type they have.
- Patients expecting improvement rather than complete removal of every scar.
- Those able to maintain treatment and sun protection between sessions.
- Procedures over nodular acne, infection or severe uncontrolled inflammation.
- Recent medicines that affect healing without professional review.
- Dermatitis, wounds, herpes or active sunburn.
- Keloid or pigmentation tendency that requires modification or avoidance of certain techniques.
Safety and expectations
Not every acne scar is treated the same way.
The wrong procedure may offer little improvement or cause added pigmentation and scarring. Classification and acne control are essential.
Acne medicines may cause irritation, sensitivity or other effects that require follow-up.
Peels, lasers, microneedling, RF, subcision and fillers have different risk profiles.
Infection, breakouts, post-inflammatory pigmentation and unwanted scarring are possible.
Scars often improve but rarely disappear completely, and more than one strategy may be needed.

01Should I treat acne or scars first?
Active acne is generally controlled first to help prevent new scars. Some measures may overlap, but the priority is individualized.
02Can a facial remove acne scars?
No. It may support superficial skin care in selected cases, but it cannot release tethering or rebuild deep scars.
03What is the best procedure?
It depends on scar type. Ice-pick, boxcar, rolling and raised scars often require different or combined strategies.
04Can every scar be erased?
A responsible goal is to make scars less visible and improve texture. Complete removal cannot be guaranteed.
