RF microneedling combines controlled needle penetration with thermal energy. It is a medical procedure whose depth, power and device settings must be individualized.

These devices use microelectrodes that enter the skin and deliver radiofrequency energy, creating localized heat at selected depths. Depending on the device and its authorized indications, treatment may address texture, atrophic scars or certain signs of skin aging.
In October 2025, the FDA reported serious complications from certain uses, including burns, scarring, fat loss, nerve damage and disfigurement. Your assessment should identify the device, authorization, training, settings and alternatives. This is neither an at-home treatment nor a conventional facial.

Who may be
a candidate?
Candidacy is not determined by a photograph or a trend. These are general guidelines and must always be confirmed during a consultation.
- Adults with an indication compatible with the available device.
- People with gradual expectations and time for recovery and follow-up.
- Patients willing to disclose treatments, medicines and implants.
- Those able to maintain sun protection and skin-barrier care.
- Active inflammatory acne, infection, herpes, dermatitis or a wound in the area.
- Recent tanning or pigment alteration that increases risk.
- Implants or medical conditions that require clearance or an alternative.
- An expectation that one session will correct deep scars or unrelated concerns.
Safety and expectations
Depth and energy are not minor details.
Device selection and clinician training are essential. The FDA considers RF microneedling a medical procedure, not an at-home cosmetic treatment.
Redness, swelling, tenderness, pinpoint crusting and temporary pigment changes may occur.
Burns, scarring, fat loss, nerve damage and disfigurement have been reported with certain uses.
Infection, herpes reactivation and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation are possible.
Cartridges must not be reused and unidentified devices should not be accepted; any complication requires professional evaluation.

01Is this the same as conventional microneedling?
No. It also delivers radiofrequency energy and creates heat, which changes the indications, settings and risks.
02Does it treat every type of acne scar?
No. Ice-pick, rolling, boxcar and raised scars may need different or combined strategies.
03How long is the recovery?
It depends on depth, energy, area and individual response. Expected redness, aftercare and unusual warning signs are explained before treatment.
04Can I restart active skin care immediately?
Not necessarily. The skin barrier is temporarily altered, so restarting retinoids, acids or other active products should be individualized.
